vintage made do and mend

Hosted at 1940’s teahouse Time for Tea, this series of workshops explored vintage style through the wardrobe, personalities and performances of stars such as Mae West and Marilyn Monroe.

As a designer and trained singer and performer I was interested in how I could use these skills to make learning about vintage fashion and the art of remaking and mending clothing more engaging and fun. The costumes and vocal performances were satisfying to develop, and sustaining the characters though the evening was challenging too.

In partnership with costumier Helen Kathryn Astaire, we also offered:

seraglia: vintage

Since 1994 re-present founder Lucy Wills has been trading in vintage accessories and jewellery, and in 2004 she launched glamourkitten.com to showcase the best of the finds. She also supplied jewellery and style stories to the Arcadia Group and other trade buyers. Many pieces bought were broken and yet too good to throw away. Using couture skills taught to her by a friend Lucy began to wire together new pieces from vintage components, beads, modern filigree, butterfly wing, metal objects and Swarovski crystal.
