House of Fairy Tales

We love what we wear. Memories of items worn, loved and long lost are gathered by the mermaid in her secret grotto, underneath the arches, and exchanged for sea creatures and stories of her own.

The vaults at Shunt allowed for a complete installation with a clam shell for Lucy to sit in and a drift of candlewick and terry cloth scraps from which simple anemones and starfish were sewn. The lighting projectors and rechargeable pebble lights were sourced from Mathmos.

At the fete at the Tate Modern, Lucy helped people large and small uncover their secret superpowers and create costumes to match. Did they want to fly, shoot fire, make everyone go to sleep, be a tiger? If so how would they move, and how would their costume need to be to make it happen?

With the help and resources of The Dressing Room, gauntlets, capes, masks, gowns, hats and bandanas were created and brought to life by the newly empowered superheroes, who then flew or soared off into the world to their next adventure.
