seraglia: maia
This range is produced by using scraps and off cuts of industrial rubber sheeting. These are then vulcanised, cut with water jet and hand finished to create rich textures and bold shapes. The shapes were inspired by tribal and folk art, and derived from hand drawings scanned and digitised.
Since the late 19th century rubber has been vulcanized to improve resilience and elasticity, and to prevent it from perishing. I’m keen to use natural rubber now as its cultivation is sustainable, and it helps store CO2 and reduce deforestation.
